What to Expect Immediately After Breast Augmentation Surgery

Once you have fully awakened from your anesthesia, provided Dr. Slenkovich has no other recommendations, you will be released the same day. You should arrange for someone to drive you home. It is also wise to arrange for someone to stay with you for the first 24 hours after you arrive at home.

What to Expect in the Days Following Your Surgery

The first few days following your breast surgery will be the most uncomfortable for you. From then on, you will note that soreness in the morning will be the worst part of your recovery. Moving will help to loosen the muscles and ease any discomfort.  Some other ways you can reduce the amount of discomfort you experience include:

• Taking pain medication prescribed by the doctor
• Keeping clothes handy that are easily put on and removed
• Using a heating pad for back pain, but only use ice packs on your breasts
• Getting as much rest as possible to promote faster healing

Take extra care to avoid infection as your incisions heal and do not soak them until they have completely closed. Be sure to watch for signs of infection which may include excessive swelling around the incisions, skin in the area that is warm to the touch and, fever, pus and redness. If you think you may be developing an infection, please contact Dr. Slenkovich immediately.

Avoid ingesting products containing ibuprofen, vitamin E, aspirin and garlic as these items thin the blood. Cocoa butter and Vitamin E oil used on your incisions (once they have closed) may help to reduce the amount of scarring you experience.

Peri-Operative Massage

Your breast enhancement surgery will include a peri-operative massage that will be done during one of your post-operative visits. We provide this service as an aid in speeding the recovery process. Massage stimulates the soft tissues, increases circulation and helps to reduce bruising, swelling and numbness.

Our office has a special room that is dedicated to peri-operative massages and provides a warm and comforting atmosphere that consists of:

• Warm sheets
• Soothing water sounds
• Relaxing music
• Essential oils

Our Soulstice Wellness Massage Therapist is specially trained to work with plastic surgery patients to ensure your safety and comfort as you recover from your breast surgery procedure. You will be educated on proper ways to stretch, exercise and pay special attention to any problems you have relating to your posture.
