The shape of a scar is directly related to the shape of an incision. For a breast lift, the most visible portion of any scarring will be from the vertical incision that goes from the areola to the inframammary crease. The shape of the scar is similar to an anchor.

The shape of the incision for a breast reduction surgery is virtually identical to that for a breast lift, while a breast augmentation scar may be considerably less noticeable, as the procedure is less invasive.

Other Breast Lift Scarring Factors

• If you are fair-skinned you are less likely to experience highly visible scarring. Darker-skinned women may experience hyper pigmentation, or darkening of the scars.
• Following your post-operative instructions, like drinking plenty of fluids and practicing proper scar care will help to minimize visible scarring.
• Because of blood flow constriction, smoking before and after your procedure will prevent adequate healing.
• In very rare cases patients may develop a type of scar called a keloid scar, which continues to grow larger or darker over time.

You will experience some scarring from a breast lift, simply because a scar is the result of a healed incision. Your body will produce extra collagen to heal itself, resulting in a scar. Many patients find that their scar becomes much less visible over the course of the year after their breast lift procedures are performed due to their body continuing to heal itself.
