Follow-Up Care for Breast Reduction Surgery
Denver, Colorado
Dr. Nick Slenkovich, Denver cosmetic surgeon, will fully explain what you should expect before, during, and after your breast reduction surgery during your lengthy consultation. He believes that patient education plays a major role in the success of any procedure.
What to Expect Immediately After Surgery
Under typical circumstances, once you have fully recovered from the anesthesia, you will be able to go home with the assistance of a friend or family member. Due to the effects of the anesthesia and pain medication, you will not be able to drive yourself. You should also arrange for someone to stay with you for at least the first 24 hours.
What Happens After the First Day?
The first three days after your surgery will be the most uncomfortable. After that, you will gradually begin to feel better. Morning soreness in the muscles can be alleviated through gentle motion. Some recommendations that will help to ease your discomfort are:
- Dr. Slenkovich will prescribe pain medication
- Plan ahead to have clothes handy that will be easy to get into and out of
- Ice packs will help to ease soreness and swelling in the breasts
- A heating pad may be used to relieve back pain
- Get as much rest as possible to help speed the healing process
Additional Advice to Aid in Healing
Take special care to avoid infection in your surgical incisions. Follow all instructions carefully. Avoid soaking your incisions until they have completely closed and healed because this can cause a bacterial infection. Watch for fever, pus, redness, excessive swelling, flu-like symptoms or skin that is warm to the touch because these may be signs of an infection.
Cocoa butter and Vitamin E oil can be applied to your surgical scars to reduce their severity. Be cautious, however, about ingesting any products that may thin the blood such as vitamin E, aspirin, ibuprofen and garlic supplements.
Careful adherence to all of Colorado plastic surgeon, Dr. Nick Slenkovich's post operative instructions will ensure that your recovery is successful and expedient.
