The Breast Reduction Procedure
In most cases, breast reduction surgery is performed with the patient under general anesthesia. Excess fatty tissue and skin are removed, and the areolas (pigmented areas surrounding the nipples) and nipples are relocated to a higher position on the breasts.
Dr. Slenkovich uses a limited-scarring technique in the majority of the breast reduction procedures he performs. This often eliminates the long scars that remain under the breasts.
Recovery from Breast Reduction Surgery
Once the breast reduction surgery is completed, you will be fitted with a special bra or dressing that helps to hold the breasts symmetrically as healing begins. The initial discomfort is controlled with oral pain medication and usually subsides gradually over the first few days. After 7-10 days, the patient may resume light activities. Scars typically fade over a six to twelve month period.
