Breast Augmentation for Correction of Asymmetry
Denver, Colorado
Breasts are rarely a perfectly matched pair. Every woman notices slight differences in the size and shape of her breasts, but extreme asymmetry can be a real concern. Breast augmentation can correct asymmetry with or without an overall breast enlargement. If you would like to correct asymmetrical breasts with breast augmentation in Colorado, Dr. Nick Slenkovich can help.
Causes of Breast Asymmetry
Asymmetry can have natural causes or it can be the result of health conditions or previous medical procedures. Breasts may be asymmetrical due to:
- Uneven development during adolescence
- Virginal hypertrophy – sudden extreme growth of one breast in a teenager or young woman
- Pregnancy and nursing
- Uneven shrinkage due to age
- Shrinkage of one breast due to a medical condition of the breast
- Mastitis - breast infection, usually caused by nursing
- Weight fluctuations
- Breast surgery for cancer or other medical conditions
- Poor outcome or complications of breast augmentation or other breast enhancement surgery
Correcting Asymmetrical Breasts
In most cases, the preferred method for correction of asymmetry is breast augmentation. Breast Augmentation may be performed on one or both breasts, depending on your desired results.
Depending on your needs and goals, and the severity of asymmetry, you may need breast augmentation of the smaller breast and a breast reduction of the larger breast. If your asymmetry is caused by shrinkage, a breast lift is also an option to achieve the ideal shape. In most cases, asymmetry can be corrected by varying the size of each breast implant. Both saline and silicone implants are viable options for correcting breast asymmetry.
