Denver Breast Augmentation Surgery | Your Role in Getting the Best Breast Augmentation

Your Role in Getting the Best Breast Augmentation

Denver, Colorado

Patients who have a thorough understanding of breast augmentation are typically the most satisfied with the results. At Colorado Plastic Surgery Center, we take patient education very seriously. Breast augmentation involves choices beyond the size of your breast implants. Decisions about the type of implant, the placement of the implant and the incision used in your procedure are all important decisions. Learning about your choices and how they will affect the end result, what you can expect from your procedure, how to choose the right cosmetic surgeon, and the risks and complications of breast augmentation will help you get the best breast augmentation.

When considering breast augmentation, you should learn as much as you can about the procedure and recovery. Dr. Nick Slenkovich will discuss your procedure with you in great detail during your consultation and pre-operative appointments. He wants to make sure that you know what to expect. Doing your research before your initial consultation will help you get the most out of the meeting. Simply being familiar with the terms we use (knowing what "cc"s are, where the inframammary crease is, and similar terms) goes a long way.

Coming Prepared to Your Consultation

Before your consultation with Dr. Nick, you should make sure you are adequately prepared. Some good things to bring to your consultation:

  • A support person, such as your spouse, a family member, or close friend whose judgment you trust
  • A written medical history, including diseases or conditions you have had, your known allergies, and any hospitalizations
  • A list of the medications you are taking, including herbal supplements and vitamins
  • Aids to help you communicate the results you desire--this might be photos of what you think good results might look like, or clothes you hope to wear after your surgery
  • A list of questions to ask. No question is off limits and Dr. Slenkovich encourages patients to discuss their questions, concerns or fears.

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons has a good list of basic questions to be sure to ask. It is best to schedule consultations with several doctors and select the one that seems able to give you the best possible experience and results from your breast augmentation.

Coming Prepared to Your Procedure

During your consultation and pre-operative appointment, Dr. Nick and our RN, Deb, will talk to you about how to prepare for your procedure. This includes what medications to avoid before surgery, what to expect in the first few days after surgery (pain levels, wound healing, when to call) and any final details, such as implant sizing.

We suggest you bring your post-surgery caregiver with you to your pre-operative appointment so they can be shown proper medication dosages and to schedule any post-operative appointments.

Ensuring the Best Recovery

The comfort, confidence, and caring of your Colorado Plastic Surgery Center experience doesn't end with your surgery. After your surgery, we will give your prescriptions, clearly labeled so you know what to take when. We'll talk to the spouse, friend, or family member who will be helping with your recovery so they know how best to help you. We offer peri-operative massages to help reduce swelling and give advice on caring for your incisions to minimize scarring. For more information, see our page on Follow-Up Care.

We are always happy to hear from our patients and know that your recovery goes better if you can put worries aside and focus on healing.

The best breast augmentation comes from a partnership between patient and surgeon. We look forward to working with you to get the best possible results for you.
